we hear the words oyster bar and our interest is piqued — you add in a wes anderson theme and we are there. seattle’s union lake is home to westward, a bar and restaurant that sits amongst ships and serves up delights fresh from the sea. with every playful nod to nautical you can think of (including everyone’s favorite the life aquatic) the space is packed with elements to make you feel like you’ve stumbled into the captain’s favorite hang. they even serve as purveyor to some of westward’s chosen goods on the market shelves, so you can take some souvenirs out to sea. get comfortable on their patio in a nautical striped blue dress, and tortoise shell accessories, and flip open your book of the week: cooking for picasso. it’s our current beach read, and it’s perfectly charming (order extra hor d’oeuvres — it’ll leave you hungry).
